2008 update

My family and I have traveled to so many places in 2008, it would have been impossible to fit them all onto our 5×7 card.

In place of a printed Christmas newsletter, here is a taste of my true passion, my FAMILY.

Our 2008: I booked a bunch of destination weddings, Jason hosted a lot of concerts (like the legendary punk rock band ”The Misfits“), Mr.E started preschool, Mr.L started 1st grade and became a yellow belt in Taekwondo, and Mr.T started 2nd grade, lost his front teeth, earned a green belt in Taekwondo, and completed his first soccer season.  We moved from our Mililani apartment (FOR RENT if you know anyone!) to a great 3 bedroom house in Aiea.

This year we vacationed in Tokyo, Japan.  It was February and cold enough to keep me from wanting to shop in Harajuku!  We enjoyed riding the trains and exploring the foreign land.  The kids really liked where we stayed, the Shinagawa Prince, because among other things, there was a bowling alley and a dolphin show, right in our hotel.

Our next trip was to San Francisco, but due to a hard drive crash, I lost all of my personal photos from that trip.  It was a short trip, but we got to visit Jason’s family and took a brisk trolley ride through downtown San Francisco and hit Ghirardelli for some of the best hot cocoa ever.

Then we went to New York.  It was our first time there and it was awesome!  Again we rode the trains.  The boys loved central park and Coney Island.  My favorite place had to be the MoMA.

In November we all flew over for my two weddings in Kona.  We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa and had a blast going down the slides.  I think I liked sneaking beers from our hotel room to the poolside the best….  ;)

December brought us our closest to home adventure, a North Shore shark tour!  My good friends came along and provided me with some amazing family photos (seen on our card above).

For more photos of the kids and our trips, please e-mail me ( marina@redheartphoto.com ).

Thanks to everyone who has kept up with my work this year.  I wish you all the best this holiday season.

Aloha, Marina

back to NY

Because I seem to have severe heart burn (damn you Pizza Hut!) and I can’t sleep, I am posting again.   As my NY wedding was a “destination wedding“, I hadn’t really ever met the bride and groom in person.  I flew in a day early and got to hang out with Tim’s side of the family.  It was a great ice breaker for the next day.  Make sure you check out my second shooter Rachel’s post of the groomsmen in Long Island.  They are some silly out takes on the wedding day!

lots of firsts

The last 2 weeks have been full of many firsts for my family and I. :) 1st time to New York & New Jersey1st time being in a basement1st time shooting a dry wedding1st time eating a gyro1st time waking up at 3 am Hawaii time for a job1st time going to my own groom’s stag night1st time not cooking for over a weekTim “the Aussie” and Sarah “the Long Island girl” were married at the most quaint church in Stoney Brook and celebrated their union at a beautiful golf club. Although I was told that it was a typical Long Island wedding, it was the people and the spirit of the day that made this a truly unique event.Special thanks to my family for following me across an ocean and a continent for a job, Rachel for driving all the way up from Boston to second shoot for me, Fiona for the word of mouth recommendation, and Tim and Sarah for trusting me to capture the first day of a long and happy life together.
