Kona Wedding #1

Like lightening striking twice, I booked 2 weddings within the same week in Kona.  I flew over the day of my first wedding at the Fairmont Orchid where I met Michelle and Danny.  They had been there all week scouting locations for our photo shoot after their ceremony.  Because their wedding was so intimate, we were able to steal away for over an hour to capture the beauty of the Big Island.  Local Hilo boy and lighting guru James Rubio joined me as my second shooter for the day.  As you can see, we took the portrait session to a whole new level, using my new mobile lighting set up.

My favorite beach on the planet

…was the location of Bonnie and Capt. Chris‘ backyard wedding.

When Bonnie first contacted me I was already booked on her wedding date.  I was so bummed at the possibility of not shooting on the beach I called my home from 1989 to 1998.  A last minute change of plans allowed me to call Bonnie and say “YES!”  I really don’t know which one of us was more excited that I was now available [but it was probably me!!!!].

As I returned back to my North Shore ‘hood, memories of days riding my schwinn cruiser on the sand crusted back roads and long swims in the sun came back to me like it was yesterday.  As guests started to arrive, I saw familiar faces fill the crowd.  My brother showed up as my assistant and turns out, he was an invited guest.  The groom’s eyes lit up as he put two and two together, “You’re Sean’s sister?!”.  In true North Shore tradition, I was only one degree of separation from my client.

Then the videographer started setting up his gear.  To my surprise, it was my brother’s best friend of 15+ years, pro surfer Jamie O’Brien at the helm of an hd camera.

With all the nostalgia in the air, I couldn’t help but get a little misty eye’d during the vows.  Being able to capture the beginning of Bonnie and Chris’ life (and family!) together was another great memory made on the sand of Ke-Iki Beach.

Congrats!

xoxo, Marina
