Ala Moana

Did you know that the Ala Moana shopping center near Waikiki is the largest open air shopping center in the world?  I did, but I wiki’d it for ya anyways.  I have been going to Ala Moana since I was a little kid.  I think the most memorable things about Ala Moana are the food court and the koi ponds.

The food court is called the “Makai Market” (which means ocean side in Hawaiian) and has just about every type of food you can imagine.  It is the mother of all food courts.

My brother fell into the koi pond when he was 3.  I remember the look of horror on the face of the japanese tourists.  Also, my middle son almost fell in once, but I caught him in time.  He got his feet wet and a learned a good lesson  ;)

One more thing you can find at Ala Moana is the newly opened Jeans Warehouse!  It is so different then the old store.  If you grew up shopping there you will appreciate the much needed face lift.  The fact that my photos are hanging on walls doesn’t hurt either.
